Setup Of The Week #163

Sometimes, for all the amazingly interesting, technical, and creative setups out there, simplicity wins. This is one of those cases.

Prete 32mm
BRT Wides
Witchcraft Bushings
Grand Ghost Rides

Seriously, how beautiful is that? I love Prete decks, especially with the little Prete face on it, it's one of those things where one tiny bit of detail contrasts a whole scene of simplicity perfectly, and makes for an amazing look. Not to mention all the hardware on this will ride soo nicely - overall this is a setup I know I could pick up and absolutely love instantly. You could almost say it's 'pretey nice', haha..

Setup from Eric B, go check his channel here :)

Setup Of The Week #162

I'm loving how many oldschool boards have won SOTW recently, it's never a bad thing to see creative decks like these kicking about.

Private Press Cruiser
Ytrucks X4s
Flatface G7Ds
Yellow Boardrails
China Tape

Another amazing oldschool board from Private Press finds its way into the SOTW ranks, and completely unsurprisingly too. Brilliantly done, amazing looking graphic, and all the right hardware to go with it. Interesting to see things like G7s, they don't pop up too much these days so it's rad the non centralised dual bearing wheels are still kicking about. Makes for an awesome setup!

Setup Of The Week #161

I don't think I've seen many, if any setups that have made me been able to imagine riding a real sized version of it more than this.

Private Press Caballero
Ytrucks X4s
Witchcraft Bushings
Grand Oldschool Wheels

Seriously.. how amazing is that? Ridiculously nice remake of a 90s skateboard, with Private Press' own shaping, and some perfectly matched hardware. The kind of board you can feel how it'd feel to ride real sized in your head, with some super soft giant wheels and a really high truck. Rad for your fingers too though, this needs a pool to go with it!

Setup from Trent of Brutal :)

Setup Of The Week #160

Sometimes a deck will jump out at you and make you say something along the lines of 'daaaaamn'. Like this.

PoP 33mm
BRT Wides
Flatface BRR Ed Whites
FBS Extra Smooth

How lush is that? Such a nice setup, PoP decks always manage to get my attention and this 33mm beauty did so in soo many ways. One of those setups you could ride yourself and wouldn't need to change anything, for those who've never ridden a 33mm they're soo much fun, and this has all the hardware that'd make you never want to go back to anything else. Plus, you know, it looks gorgeous, the bottom ply makes me want to each chocolate and drink coffee at the same time!

Setup Of The Week #159

I basically lived off pizza for a year back when I left uni years ago, and still love pizza with a passion, so this was a clear win for me this week.

Blosom with DIY Graphic
Ytrucks X4s
Oaks

How sick is that! Pizza Hut might not make the best pizza out there like they used to years ago, but still, that's such a rad setup. Perfectly matched with some awesome hardware, X4s are looking amazing and the colourway of those and the oaks works perfectly here. Plus, it's a Blosom, you know it's gonna be amazing to ride - as I said, a clear winner.

Setup from Oli L, go check this on FBHQ here :)

Setup Of The Week #158

With SOTY#3 over, it's time to get back in full swing into SOTW so we can stock up for a fourth year. Who's got the second spot?

Brutal Cruiser
BRT Wides Yellow
Witchcraft Bushings
Flatface G5s

Seriously, how rad is that? I love oldschool cruisers, especially proper oldschool ones that don't even have noses on them. Sure they might not be great for street but this in a bowl would be soo much fun. Topped off with everything to make it an amazing looking and performing setup too, you really cant go wrong.

Setup from Eric B, go check his channel here :)

Setup Of The Week #157

SOTY #3 will continue later today, but for now, here's what will be the first entrant in SOTY #4..

BeastPants Mutant Split 32.5mm
Ytrucks X4 Pink
Grand Dual Bearing Wheels

I know it's perhaps a bit premature, being the first of 52 setups that'll be entered to win next year.. but, possible winner next year? Certainly could be. This setup is AMAZING, rad hardware which is not only nice but a break from the standard BRT+FF/WW you normally see, and one of the most insanely made splits ever. Plus those eye cut outs in the grip? Too good doesn't even come close to explaining it.

Setup from BeastPants Chris, check BeastPants here :)

Setup Of The Week #156

This is the last setup that'll be counted into this year's Setup Of The Year, Setup Of The Year #3, which is starting this afternoon. Who made the last spot?

Woob
BRT Wides
Rip Bushings
Winkler Big Daddy'z
Entry Tape

Honestly I feel I could just post this picture, nothing else, and that would explain perfectly why this won.. But you know me, I'm not going to shut up, especially when it comes to a setup this week. It was a hard week to choose, loads of nice setups, especially with the Blosom rush after CF2. But only one setup could win, and this really beat everything else, with not only an amazing colourscheme, but a seriously fun (and quite unique too) looking deck to ride. Props!

Setup from Woob Zac, go check it on FBHQ here :)

Setup Of The Week #155

Being that there were some awesome 'post crossed fingers' setups this week, it was pretty hard to choose just one. But..

Blosom 30.5mm Terst Graphic
Black/Yellow 29mm BRTs
BRT Medium Bushings
Oak RV Purples
FBS Extra Smooth

Ridiculously cool stuff. Very much an in-joke graphic to the UK scene, this setup is from Danny H and he's known for having a very northern accent which for some reason years ago ended in him saying 'toast', which sounded like 'terst' because of his accent. So now it's on a board, and a very amazing board at that. How do I know? Well, my fingers are in the top right of the first picture, as that's taken at Campus Skatepark. Claim to fame, haha..

Go check Danny's channel here :)

Setup Of The Week #154

In a week, often even though there are LOADS of impressive setups, one just stands out for you. This week, that was..

NinetySix Custom with hand done graphic
BRT Wides Painted
Oak RVs

I love this setup, not only does it look super sick, but there's soo much customisation and personalisation going into it. Rad self done graphic, self painted trucks.. it's really taking something and making it 100% his. Plus I'm sure it rides soo nice, so it's far from just a pretty face. A clear winner!

Setup from Grendel, go check his channel here :)

Setup Of The Week #153

This week there were loads of great setups, but when I saw this I knew it would win, hands down.

Weca Deck Pineapple Graphic
BRT Wides
Oak RV Links

Such an amazing setup! I love the look of it, the way that the graphic is rather simple and so is most of the hardware, but then it's all contrasted really nicely by the colour of the wheels. Gives a very tropical 50s feel to it, and I'm sure being that it's a Weca deck it's gonna ride even nicer than it looks. Awesome!

Setup from Axel W, go check his channel here :)

Setup Of The Week #151

This week was one of those weird weeks where even thought during the week I thought picking would be easy, it wasn't.

Temple Oldschool Deck
BRT Wides
Flatface G4s

I absolutely love this oldschool board! Such a fun looking shape, and mixed with all the right hardware - I just want to put it in a half pipe and start shredding. The graphic on it is amazing too, my friend has one of the oldschool remake skateboards that came out recently and this reminds me soo much of that. A clear winner.

Setup from Jackson T, go check his channel here :)

Setup Of The Week #150

It's getting really close to SOTY time again! Who's made the cut to be in it this week?

Primitive Replica Cruiser
TD Longboard Trucks
Grand 8.5 Cruiser Wheels
Skate Grip

Probably the best replica of a skateboard ever made? Yup, if you cant tell, the last picture is the skateboard, Mikkel S now owns both a big and small version of. Looks absolutely amazing, I'm sure it performs just as rad too - it'd be amazing to have a replica like this and Primitive did such a good job making it. A clear winner!

Setup from Mikkel S of Lovedrug, go check Lovedrug here :)

Setup Of The Week #149

I don't think I've seen one of these decks take SOTW for a while now, so it's cool to see them back in the weekly spotlight.

Radramps Deck
BRT Wides
Flatface Wheels

Seriously nice stuff! I love Radramps decks and I love graphic decks, so them mixed together in this way is a match made in heaven. This looks soo fun to ride too, plus it's a woodprint by the looks of it so that graphic isn't going anywhere for a long time. A clear winner!

Setup from Conrad M of Radramps :)

Setup Of The Week #148

It's weird how time has flown by this year, it's almost August and less than two months from SOTY#3! Who's into it this week?

Brutal Fingers Pool Deck
TD Longboard Trucks Custom Painted
Witchcraft Bushings
BRR Locknuts
Foam Riser Pads
Brutal Fingers Boardrails
Grand 8.5mm Longboard Duals Violet Panther
3M Grip

I absolutely love this! Such an interesting board, and whilst in a way it looks slightly DIY you can tell that it's gonna be amazing to ride, especially in pools. A great mix of hardware too, and loads of tiny little additions that make it one of the raddest things I've seen pop up in a while. This and a bowl would be the best time in summer!

Setup from Trent W of BrutalFB here :)

Setup Of The Week #147

This week was a pretty tough choice between this setup and one of the most unique albeit probably stupid things I've seen in a while, a 1 ply deck. However..

Blosom 32.5mm
Ytrucks X4s
Ywheels Y2s
FBS

There's too much awesome here that this couldn't win! Or, should I say, Bl-awesome, this deck is amazing and it's rad to see it perched on one of the super limited benches in the background too. Perfect colour scheme and hardware to match, along with such a nice clean and simple vibe to it. Too nice.

Setup from TNP Pete, go check his channel here :)

Setup Of The Week #146

Another week rolls by, and another crazy setup gets added to the lists of contestants for this year's SOTY. This week?

Flatface G14 Graphic
BRT Wides
Riptape Bushings
Flatface BRR Eds
FBS

I love how nice this looks! In one way it's totally simple, just a deck set up with plain trucks and wheels, but I love how this all comes together to be something that looks absolutely amazing. The colours all work nicely too, especially with this beautiful picture - it's one of those things I couldn't not stop and stare at whilst scrolling past it. A clear winner!

Setup from Grantas K, go check his channel here :)

Setup Of The Week #145

You should know by now if you've been reading here even for a short period of time, that I love bad jokes and puns. Soo..

BeastPants 33mm
TD Longboard Trucks
Flatface G7Ds

It's a split, with a banana, so it's a banana split! But it's not a banana split. I'm sure you get the joke, but I think this is epic, not to mention one of the nicest looking splits I've seen in soo long. BeastPants decks are looking far to good these days, and I'm sure they ride just as nice as they look. Especially when mixed with strawberries? Fruit makes you strong and then you can pop bigger tricks, haha..

Setup from BeastPants, go check BeastPants here :)

Setup Of The Week #144

I think these are some of my favourite graphic style Yellowoods ever, so I'm unsurprised that one finally made it to SOTW.

Yellowood Z3
Ytrucks X4s
Witchcraft Bushings
Oak Wheels RVs
FBS Extra Smooth

Such a nice setup here from UK legend Thom M! No surprise to see what brands he's riding, but I love his choice of colour combinations, these all go soo nicely together. The wheels match the YW writing, the black and blue trucks match the graphic, and then the little contrast of the bushings match the side plies that stand out too. Plus, need I even say that this is gonna ride as nice as it looks? A clear winner.

Go check Thom's channel here :)

Spoils Of The Afternoon

After finally finishing work, and getting everything set for an OG deck review I'll have up tomorrow, I got to enjoy this.

My Woob deck! 92x32mm of goodness, this is a weird deck to get used to, but oh so fun once you've had a little sesh on it. Tiny wheelbase, super fun to flip on, and absolutely perfect on miniramp - I should have a review up of this at some point soonish. Thanks again to Zac for it :)
