For those of you who've never tried a closeup, they're an underrated product because they used to be tech deck width, and most people hate that. They perform surprisingly well, I had a closeup g2 as my first deck, it was thinner than a tech deck and it still wasn't that bad to use! I don't get the current obsession with 32mm decks. 30, 29, or 28 is what I like. Skateboards aren't square, so, I don't see why fingerboards are heading that way, haha XD Anyway, back to the product, whats new this year is wider decks, they're now 27mm, which I think could be a great performance increase. Trucks are also that width, so, they're basically td wide trucks. (not china wides, I mean old td wides, the 28mm ones). BUT, these are shaped with their own shape (its 100% their shape, close up pay for that), it has SINGLE AXLE (they were the first people to make single axle trucks back in the day), will come in colours, has the logo printed on it, and a brand new white top bushing thats cone shaped.
Something else thats great about close up, is their graphics. Amazing quality, and co brandings between skate companies and themselves. 30 new graphics coming for generation 4! Which is amazing, if any of the g3 graphics were anything to go off, these will be great.
What I'm most excited about is the trucks. They're basically single axle wides, which look great, are printed, and come a LOT cheaper than any other single axle truck! I think a lot of people will go over to using these, I know I'll want a set for my outdoor setup! Axles falling out annoys me soo much, its one of the main reason I'm a BRR trucks fan.
If you're still not convinced, listen to Biebel + Mike Mo!
Biebel has a close up on his leg. There's another photo with him holding it up and smiling, but I thought this one was better.
Close up are doing great stuff, as always, so, don't join the silly bunch of people who dislike them, go pick up a g4, try it for yourself, and you might just realise your chode 34mm deck isn't as good as you thought, haha. No, to each their own, but definitely go check out close up! :)
