So, the Philippines had a game of skate contest a while ago, sounded really awesome. Two categories, both flatland, and rail. The two winners were brothers. Whats more impressive, is that they were using makeshift plastic decks, rather than wood decks, as they had no money. PVC pipe plastic with random foamy stuff for tape. And they won. I mean, I'm not gonna say 'ahh, its all about products if you want to be good', but, you go ride a tech deck and tell me its easy to get decent tricks down compared to on a proper board. Imagine winning a competition against loads of really good riders, when you've not even got a proper board? Amazing.
The two winners were brothers. Jeff and Juzteng Justo. Now, given their amazing performance, skill, passion and commitment to fingerboarding, they got sponsored by a great company, Manila Fingerboards. Its a really inspiring story tbh. I know if I was going to be in battle of the harrics or something, I wouldn't take an index card fingerboard, I'd take my panic. But it just goes to show skill can out shine everything else.
Huge props to these guys! The Philippines scene sounds like it gets better and better all the time :)
