A surprise visitor to the first Crossed Fingers event, Hugo from Spain, gave me this deck from the owner of Onuba for me to do a review - so here it is! Pictures? I set this up with BRT 2.0s, Winkler Wheels, and China tape.
Shipping I cant comment on as I was handed this in person, but being as Jospe gave this to Hugo to take a thousand miles or so, you can tell he'd likely post things decently as well. n/a
First Impressions of this deck I was stoked on the bottom ply and the shape! I'd seen some beautiful bottom ply Onuba decks on FFI and this one certainly stacks up with those. Plus the craftsmanship looked nice too. 10/10
Craftsmanship on this deck is really nice in a lot of ways, the deck is well pressed to the mold and has a nicely defined shape the whole way around. Perfect holes and countersinks too, so setup was simple as it should be. Unfortunately the shaping of the kicks is a bit off on one, but not enough to affect performance. 9/10
Performance of this deck is unfortunately not as nice as it could be, but the thing is I'm not sure why. The deck is decently made and has a nice amount of pop in it, I just felt I couldn't get my tricks to respond to me as much as I'd like with other decks. Don't get me wrong, a few tries and everything could go down as with my main setup - it was just a bit harder on this, even when getting used to it. One other problem I had was that it's really hard to tell which end is which - a simple arrow or stamp could fix that and I'm sure I'm not the only one who likes to know which is which. BUT.. Enough on the bad - this deck does ride nicely, and it's got a really nice flowy shape which is especially fun on halfpipes. It can take quite a beating too, there's a few lacquer scratches but overall it keeps it's pop and shine nicely. 8/10
Overall this deck is weird, being that I cant put my finger on exactly why I didn't love it - it ticks boxes that I should! Either way this is the old mold of these decks, and I think the new shape is not only a lot nicer but fixes the few problems with rounding these have. They're ticking all the right boxes with craftsmanship, and have huge potential, so it's really just a case of keeping an eye on their new decks and seeing when that's reached. The new decks could already be there, maybe for the price they're worth having a try! 8/10
