Zonawood Smooth Shape Review

Finally some of the decks on my review queue are getting reviewed and its getting smaller - this time one of the most amazing decks to look at I've ever seen. Thanks to Zonawood for this amazing work of art for free! Pictures?

Shipping took less than a week I believe, which is pretty impressive for international shipping. The important bit is that he shipped on time, and it arrived in perfect condition. 10/10

First impressions
I don't think I need to share with you guys - this deck is one of the nicest splits I've ever seen! I'm not soo much into random split patterns, so things that paint a picture are really impressive to me. Plus the detail, such as the shadow? I loved it. Amazing looking shape too, and overall I couldn't see a thing wrong with it. 10/10

Craftsmanship
is pretty much perfect here. Not only do all the splits fit together perfectly to make a really smooth, amazing looking graphic, but its perfectly pressed throughout with a really nice shape. Great looking plies, perfect holes and countersinks too? Setup was effortless, and I really cant complain here. 10/10

Performance
of this deck is really nice. He made the deck to my preference, so its a 32.5mm wide deck, and the shape is very much to my preference as well. This is far from bias though, the mellow concave and medium kicks works really nicely for anyone, and I think anyone could get used to this very quickly. Tons of pop and a length that makes it really responsive, its hard to find a negative here. Except two things. One, and one huge thing in my books, is the lacquer, its terrible, absolutely terrible. I can scrape it off with my nails, and its scratched up like a deck that's been used for almost a year or something. Also a shame that such a beautiful bottom ply has bad lacquer on it! One final thing that's not soo much a negative as a point of note, is how the tail feels like its too much of a difference from the nose at first. Its an interesting shape other companies have done occasionally, and it works, but only after a bit of getting used to - at first nollie tricks will feel weird. Once you're used to it though, the deck sucked up to my fingers on catches, and made soo many tricks effortless. 9/10

Overall
there's only really one thing letting this deck down from being one of the nicest decks I've tried, and that's the lacquer. Otherwise the craftsmanship and performance of this go miles beyond the price range, infact I think he really should charge more, 25 dollars would still be a steal for even a blank of this quality. I say those judgements with the lacquer fixed, that is, right now that's a definite let down. But its easily fixed, and hopefully the owner can go pick up a new type of lacquer, then he'd be putting out some amazing decks. And even with scratching off lacquer, they're a deck everyone should try! 9.5/10
