Redemption Mellow Review

Redemption put out a bunch of decks to review of their new mellow shape, an updated version of the fantastic MMC mold. Huge thanks to Jordan for this deck, I've really enjoyed reviewing it! Here's some pictures first, I set it up with BRR 2.0s, TKYs, Winklers, and 701 tape.

Shipping
was pretty average, a week or so for international post. Arrived in a bubble mailer and was in perfect condition. 10/10

First impressions
of this deck, I was drawn in by the amazing bottom ply, its almost like a hologram it looks soo rad! Beautiful shape too, and the standard awesomeness from Redemption. 10/10

Craftsmanship
of this deck is pretty much flawless. Previous Redemption decks I've tried have had tails that were just too short, but that's been fixed now and the shape looks great. I love how flowy the mellow is, whilst still keeping all the good points of the MMC. Great plies, great holes, great rounding, and nicely topped off with the Redemption stamp. 10/10

Performance
of all Redemption decks I try goes up with every one! Even though this is a 30mm, which is thinner than I like, I got on with it really easily, and could do tons of tricks straight away. The mellow shape might not seem for everyone, but the thing with the Redemption mellow shapes is that somehow they seem really responsive and don't feel mellow to ride, even though they're a mellow shape. I'm not sure how, and I've not got this much performance out of any other deck this mellow, but these mellow kicks perform almost like medium kicks! Perhaps they're not as easy for me to use as a deck like a blosom, I find nollie tricks a bit harder with a lower tail. One issue - the lacquer is a nice shiny thick coat, and whilst it looks great, and marks on it don't affect performance - it does scratch away pretty easily. My park is quite deck friendly, but it still scratched up some noticeable scratches, as you can see in the photo above. 9.5/10

Overall
I think these decks are some of the nicest decks out there. Maybe the mellow isn't for everyone, I'm quite into mellow shapes so I think I'm able to get on with this perhaps more than those who like a deeper deck with medium kicks. BUT I think its something worth trying, and probably a deck that everyone could get used with not too much difficulty. Nice to see the craftsmanship is still top notch, and the shape is now perfect. Still, not for fans of hardcore decks, and issues with lacquer too, so a final 9.5/10
