701 Tape Review

Reviewing tape is never the easiest thing in the world to do, but nonetheless I got this sick tape from 701 - after trying it for ages, here's my review! Please note, I messed up the holes when I was tired, this tape will NOT go like that if you cut it normally. Pictures?

Shipping
was pretty quick for international post, around a week. Arrived in a bubble mailer in perfect condition. 10/10

First impressions
of this tape, I was really impressed with the packaging and professional look of the tape! It came in a cool bag with professional looking header, and nice stickers. The tape was a little thicker than I thought it would be, but still looked nice. 9/10

Craftsmanship
doesn't count - people don't make tape, factories do. People simply source it. n/a

Performance
of this tape is pretty nice - however it does take some wearing in. Which is why I stuck with a piece of tape to review even though I skanked up the holes, because I wanted it to wear in as much as it could. Its a thicker, open pore tape, but has a very nice feel to it. At first its not soo grippy, but with maybe a few solid days of using it it was worn in nicely, at which point it got a lot grippier. As with many open pored tapes, its got fantastic board feel and allows you to switch finger positionings easily, unlike some of the mega grippy closed pore tapes such as FBS and foamy greatness. However it isn't grippy enough for me to love it until its worn in, which I feel is an issue. The thickness I think will give it a longer life than many tapes, but with that comes a downfall of it being slightly harder to feel concave on boards. Not as much as you'd think, especially when its worn in you don't notice its thick - but at the start its an issue. 7.5/10

Overall
I think this tape is quite nice, and for the price its definitely worth trying for those who want to try something new. Some people who ride deeper concave boards like thicker tape, and at the end of the day its all down to preference. When I tried this tape I originally thought it was going to be bad, but worn in its a lot nicer than you'd expect. Still not going to get a thumbs up over propaganda tape or either or the riptapes, BUT that's only my preference. I don't think its for everyone, but trying it certainly couldn't hurt if you want to check out a new product. The only thing I think that needs real attention is to cut the sheets wider, mine seem to be 32mm wide, which is only just wide enough for current fingerboarding standards. 35+ would be a lot nicer. So overall, I'm not going to tell you this is the best tape in the world, but its a lot nicer than it originally seems - and for those who like open pore tapes, certainly worth a try for the money. 7.9/10
