I know, we've all see the flyer by now, and I'm sure everyone is as stoked as I am who's going. If you're not, there's always the live stream, which was really fun last year. I've heard some ideas about what's going down to make this year's live stream more interesting, but no idea if that's happening or not, so you guys can just wait and see. Nonetheless, this is thursday thoughts after all, what's on my mind?
Well, I could talk about predictions. I'm sure we've all got our own ideas of who's going to win, or at least who's going to come close. Like a ton of people's predictions for BATH#3 showed - it rarely turns out the way you'd imagine. The pressure of being up there with hundreds and hundreds of people watching you, and thousands more via the internet, it can turn even the most solid riders out there to jelly. I'll be shocked beyond words if I manage to get past the first round with all the talent out there, BUT, really when you look at it that's not the point. I didn't pay my flight tickets just to go to a one day event, I wont spend hours travelling just to try and win some money, a trophy, and a ton of youtube subscriptions. The best thing for me is the people. Fingerboarding with friends is something I don't get to do so often, same for many of us I imagine who don't know fingerboarders in our local area, especially so in the UK where the scene isn't huge like Germany. Events aren't about who wins, or about who does what trick, its really about everyone having fun together. And its pretty magical that something soo many people would consider insignificant can gather ca 1000 people into one tiny town in the middle of Bavaria, and generate soo much fun.
In short - there's always going to be kids who want to just win, or kids who want to get their boards signed by Mike or Martin or Elias, and I guess we need that for fingerboarding to be as big as it is today. But for those of us who know more? Whether you go to fast fingers, a tiny little event, or just a meetup, the true fun will always be fingerboarding with friends. So when ever you can do it, do it.
