Thursday Thoughts #8

That time of the week again, so gather round everyone, its fingerboarding story time - except its not a story. Or something.

What's this? Well, three fantastic videos that popped up almost three years ago. Some of you probably haven't even seen the first one, which is a shame because Joaquin's part in Daydream's fulllength 'head in the clouds' remains to this day one of my favourite ever videos. Even three years ago he had one of the best styles out there! I need not say words about Grand Illusion 1, or Mike's FBWeekly part. And the many many other sick videos out there from back in the day.

My question to you all is - do you think these videos get beaten? When new talents come out - especially since these were out a lot more people have hd cameras are making much more artistic videos. I can name soo many beautiful videos that have come out in the last year - BUT are they beating the old videos? Do the old reign supreme? Or do they simply live in harmony? Personally I think there tends to be a bunch of schools of thought, there will always be the die hard oldschool fans who'll swear anything from 2004 is miles better than todays fingerboarding; and with that the opposite end of the spectrum too. I'm a big fan of liking everything, but I rewatched some old videos the other day and got to thinking just how crazy it is that a lot of people might never have seen that beautiful part by Joaquin, or scrolled back through Mike's videos to see his FBWeekly part. There's always room for now, and obviously all the time fingerboarding evolves and brings out crazy new tricks and combos - but we really shouldn't forget gems like this.

Go watch some fantastic videos from back in the day - then if you want join in the discussion on FBHQ here :)
