OWood Deck Review

I got this deck a few weeks back to review from the owner of OWood, he was great enough to send it to me for free. I've seshed it a fair amount since I've got it and I feel I'm ready to do a review, so here goes! First check out some pictures of the deck, setup with wides, redawn bushings, media tape, and no comply roll 9s.

Shipping took around two weeks, which is a pretty respectable time for a deck to get from the US to the UK. The owner was a bit delayed shipping the deck out but he'd said straight away that there would be a delay sending it, so that's fair enough. I'm sure if you brought a deck, not got one free, he'd ship it as soon as. It came nicely packaged in a bubble mailer, and arrived in perfect condition. 8.5/10

First impressions of this deck were really nice! I'm normally not a fan of two tones, but this one looks really nice, and the craftsmanship on the shape, the edges, and everything else, looked really nice. It was very nicely pressed, especially for a 5 ply deck, it was very thin, in a good way. The plies are really nice and have a great combination of maple and an interesting exotic middle ply, which instantly caught my eye when I first saw the deck. The kicks seemed a bit 'pointy' for my liking, but that's just preference. 9/10

Craftsmanship of this deck is pretty nice. The shape as I've said is great, really well pressed, consistent throughout, and the edges are rounded really nicely. Really nice lacquer too that is shiny, not too thick, and strong, just how it should be! The top of the deck comes with an OWood stamp, which is pretty cool, means you know you get a legit deck. Its a shame I ran into my first negative here with the setup of the deck, the holes were a bit off, only the teeniest bit, but they were too spaced from each other and I couldn't get all the screws in. I got all the left screws in, then I had to switch to closeup screws for the right ones as they're thin screws, and they could fit through the gap that must have been about half a milimetre off, and go into the baseplate. So I got 7 out of 8 screws in, but not perfectly, and only with different screws. However, I've seen a bunch of great OWood decks on FFI so I think this was a one off. 8/10

Performance of this deck is really nice! Its a shape I'm not used to, a much deeper concave than I like with a lot longer, verging towards pointed kicks. I could still get most my tricks on it, and the concave made it really fun to ride around on a miniramp! Its got a really nice pop and even though I'm not at all used to this deck my tricks were still getting nice height, and I could catch some tricks too. I'm sure for people who like less mellow decks these would be perfect, but for me I couldn't fully get used to it. Still, it does perform well and its great that there are cheap decks out there like OWood, they're a very good shape for beginners I think, because at first I think concave and medium kicks helps you to learn tricks and get more feel of the board. I do think the kicks needed to be a bit less 'pointy', they'd increase performance a fair bit with that I think! Nonetheless, whilst this was something different to what I'm used to, I was really impressed by the performance. 8.75/10

Overall I think these decks are really nice decks, from beginners to everyone who likes a nice bit of concave and an interesting shape. I couldn't personally get used to them, but everyone has preference and I think these nonetheless are great decks! Especially for the price of $12, you really cant say no. Beautifully made decks with a whole lot of great performance, really nicely made, and you can get customs to get your perfect deck made! If you're looking for something new to try and are on a budget, I really recommend picking up an OWood. I'd say they're definitely on level with the other extremely good cheaper board makes, such as redemption, which is far from a bad thing! 8.9/10

You can pick up a custom OWood deck for $12 by heading to the OWood store below. They have loads of great colours, woods, and are available in almost all widths. Cant go wrong really!
