Weca Deck Review

There's been a lot of hype on these decks since Swedish fingerboard prodigy Axel W started making them, so the question I'm sure a lot of you want to know is "do they live up to that?". Well, read on and you'll see. Pictures first? I set this deck up with BRT 2.0s, Winklers, and China tape.

Shipping
took less than a week from Sweden to the UK, which is a very good time considering. It came in a bubble mailer and arrived wrapped up like a present, which was awesome. 10/10

First impressions
, aside being stoked on it being wrapped up with a little tag on it, I absolutely love the graphic! These are the kinds of decks that you can just look at and tell are really nice, so huge props to Weca for making something with this much of a nice finish. I did however notice one hole was off, but that was it. 9.5/10

Craftsmanship
on this deck is almost perfect. As I said, a hole was off, but the rest of the holes were not only fine but aligned perfectly too, and setup was absolutely effortless as I simply avoided the hole that was off. 7 out of 8 screws still holds your trucks on perfectly so it's only an aesthetic issue. That aside the board is nicely pressed, very nicely rounded, and keeps a constant 32mm width throughout. 9.5/10

Performance
of this deck is great, and also made me realise something that I'd come to love very quickly about this deck, that being the two decks it seems like a cross between. If you put a Redemption MMC 99 and a Blosom 32.5mm in a bedroom with some smooth jazz and candles, I'm pretty sure 9 months later this would be the outcome. The shape is very much a cross between the two, mellow concave, medium mellow kicks, and nice dips. What it also has similar to the Redemption is a shorter tail, which on 32mms doesn't feel too short, but is definitely shorter than some. For me that's great, I love decks around 98mm long so the short feel to it reminded me also of Unique decks. Enough comparisons though as I'm sure the similarities are only coincidences - Weca decks find a middle ground between a lot of preferences and end out with a really nice deck, which pops for days and has a ton of control, even with it's mellow concave. It also made my switch heels a TON easier, no idea why as normally I find concave makes them easier.. Perhaps these decks are just great? The lacquer held up nicely as did the woodprint graphic, there's only a tiny bit of scratching on it from some pretty heavy use, so I'd say these will last a long time. Maybe not everyone will appreciate the size of these decks and their tails being on the short side, but I think it works brilliantly. 9.5/10

Overall
these decks aren't going to be an instant hit for everyone. If you like Yellowoods, No Comply Decks, old Homewood shapes, etc, you're not going to dive into a shorter wheelbase and short tail without some getting used to pains. However anyone who's used to Redemption, Blosom, Berlinwood, and other decks of the shorter wheelbase variety, you'll pick these up and love them straight away. It's a shame about 1 hole being off (I think what ever deck you get from Weca you'll have no trouble getting your trucks on even if it's only 7 holes in), but otherwise I found it extremely hard to put a negative on these. Nicely made, nice to use, and an accidental middle way between two of the finest decks to be made in fingerboarding in the last few years. Recommended! 9.5/10
