This was a close call, but, after much thought and judging by myself, I finally settled on our winning entry. First, I'd just like to say a great big THANKYOU to everyone who entered! You made the competition a great success and I'll be doing something else soon, maybe an event where people can fingerboard rather than write, I'm not sure yet. Nonetheless, I'm glad I did this competition, and its been definitely worth taking money out of my pocket to give the winner a well deserved prize!
Our winner is Jonathan Sivel, from Leeds, UK!
Here is his winning entry, written about Redemption. He won because he showed his love for the company, and described really well how redemption, in his eyes, are about the love of fingerboarding, which is what he thinks fingerboarding is all about. I think I agree there! :)
"I've been fingerboarding for about 5 years now. In that time I've seen a lot of companies growing and growing. Berlinwood, Flatface, Blackriver to name a few. There is one company however that really sticks out from the rest. Redemption fingerboards. Over the years I've had a considerable amount of decks, from various companies. I had my first Redemption deck early this year and I have to say I was very impressed. The deck was nice and solid, holes were drilled perfectly, it had a nice unique shape and the wood colours were great. I now own 2 more of the decks and they're all I ride.
So what makes Redemption so different from the rest? Well above all, the price. Redemption products easily match the quality of most huge companies out there. The price of most fingerboards today is getting pretty much ridiculous. Especially as there are more and more younger kids starting fingerboarding. A ten year old kid most likely isn't going to be able to fork out $45 for a deck, let alone all the other parts needed for a good set-up. This was a problem for me and I'm sure many others. In addition, parents generally see fingerboards as a waste of money and wont buy overpriced products for their kids. That's why I think redemption are by far the best. You could pick up a Redemption deck of the same quality as all the huge companies, and it will most likely be less than $15. Jordan Green (the Redemption owner) really seems to be helping the fingerboard scene. When I buy a deck from him I feel like he made it to provide someone with the love of fingerboarding, and not just to earn tons of money.
Fingerboarding to me is a love. The feeling of being at an event, with lots of people that share the same passion as you is unbeatable. Its hard to believe that so much enjoyment can come from a tiny skateboard, but its true. Whether you see fingerboarding as a bit of fun with your friends, pulling insane tricks and pushing the limits, or you see fingerboarding as your way to express creativity and style in a realistic way, it is without doubt a love. I believe Redemption spreads that love by providing great quality products at very affordable prices. If you haven't seen the Redemption website, check it out now http://www.redemptiondistribution.com . Have Fun. Peace."
Congratulations Jonathan, I'll email you right now with details on your prize! And thankyou again to everyone who took the time to take part, I hope you found it a fun competition whether you won or not. And as I say, it was a very close call!
